Light and Bright- A Finished Quilt

It’s done!

I’ve already featured blocks A & C in recent posts; you can read about their construction here and here.

Block B was the simplest, and the most used in this quilt. Of 35 blocks, 17 were Block B.

A 4½ inch navy flowers strip, with 2 2½ inch teal grunge polka in teal strips sewn to each side. Sew the width of fabric strips together, and then sub cut into the 8½ inch blocks. Easy! Pretty!

Since I haven’t yet mastered (let’s be honest, I haven’t even attempted) free motion quilting, I needed to use the seams of the quilt blocks to follow for quilting all the layers together.

I used a stitch in the ditch method through some of the blocks but wanted to do something special for the stars. Rather than try to hide the stitch inside the seams, I quilted ¼ of an inch inside and outside of the star. I then went back and added a third star around the outside edge of the two I had already done.

But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how the star looks on the polka dot back!

Pink grunge polka dots for the binding tied all the colors together.

I know this quilt will be more than well-loved. It will be treasured. And used. Quilts are meant to be worn out and repaired, and worn out again. My friend gets that. That’s why I made her a quilt. Because she demanded one for her baby.
