Completed Quilting Goals
It’s December 31st and that means it’s time to look back at this year’s Completed Quilting Goals. If you are new to following Darcy Quilts, I always start January 1st with a list of goals for the year, and I’ll do the same tomorrow for 2023. New Year’s Eve is my opportunity to look back at how well I did or did not complete the goals for the year.
2022 Completed Quilting Goals
Half Rectangle Triangles
Yes, but I don’t have anything to show for it yet.
Wait, what?
I did not make a quilt with HRTs this last year. I have worked through the mental math of a new quilt pattern, using HRTs, based on the design of this Thank You card.
Quilting patterns are truly all around us!
A new, unnamed pattern will be out in 2023 using Half Rectangle Triangles!
Clean Out the Scrap Box
Well, I made a valiant effort at cleaning out the scrap box!
I used the leftovers from the Carillon Quilt Pattern cover quilt to make a throw size version of the Beachy Quilt pattern while also rewriting the pattern to make it more user-friendly and include more sizes.
This quilt is still available in my Etsy Quilts for Sale Section.
I made this Scrappy Baby Quilt and wrote up a tutorial. I’m pretty much out of blue scraps now!
I used the scraps from a new Diamond Twist quilt to make some matching pillowcases. A tutorial for this will be out early next year.
And, I wrote up a Scrappy Binding tutorial.
All in all, a very scrappy year. But no, the scrap box is not empty. It might be time to admit defeat. It will never be empty. But I will keep trying!
Find a New Color Palette to Work With
Yes!
The purples, pinks and oranges were the dream I had in mind when I set this goal, and I am very, very happy with how this quilt meets my original vision. This is a FREE quilt pattern too!
A friend commissioned me to make two quilts this last spring, and she picked the prettiest fabrics! I never would have picked these colors myself, but I love how the pickle green plays with the dark turquoise and the navy to make these stars.
Pro tip, when looking for a new color palette, put someone else in charge!
Now, for most of you, this last quilt would not qualify as a new color palette. It’s essentially the rainbow minus orange. However, I’m including this quilt here for two reasons.
1. I could not tell you the last time I worked with a true red or a true green. I lean more cranberry and mint than red red and green green.
2. This is a new quilt pattern, tentatively titled Lattice Stars, that will be out soon. I need to buckle down and write the pattern, and this will be my third pattern release in 2023, but it is coming soon! If you can’t bear to wait until the pattern is out, this baby size version is for sale in my Etsy shop.
Finish Last Year’s Goals
This goal felt a little bit like a cop out, but I had a lot of unfinished goals in 2021, so it made sense at the time.
Make Something That Isn’t a Quilt
Yes!
I made a fabric box!
Open a Pattern Shop
Nope. I’m still only on Etsy. Maybe in 2023.
Double Sales
Nope. Stupid economy. Revenue was approximately the same in 2023 as in 2022. Compared to a lot of other Etsy sellers in groups I follow, that actually puts me ahead of many, many Etsy shops this year. War and economy and non-necessities are not a great combination.
But, I’m going to just keep doing what I do. Making pretty quilts and writing kick ass patterns and tutorials. The economy will recover eventually.
Make a Two Block Quilt
Yes!
Of course, last year’s Quiltville Mystery, the Rhododendron Trail quilt was two blocks.
I also made this baby quilt that is a mix of 4-patches and 9-patches and will be a tutorial soon.
While the Medallion Quilt wasn’t made in 2022 (I finished it on Christmas Eve 2021), all of the tutorials for the various blocks did release in 2022 so I am going to include it here. Plus, it’s made of five different blocks, rather than two, so I say this goal was met and exceeded.
One Project at a Time
I actually got closer to accomplishing this than I ever though possible! At the time of writing, I only have 2 quilts waiting to be basted!
Completed Quilting Goals
Well, that’s more successfully completed quilting goals than I was maybe expecting.
Check back tomorrow to see what’s on tap for 2023!

I enjoy reading of your goal
accomplishments. I think perhaps we all should set goals, notify our friends (and the public as you do?) and share the results. Do you check in with your goals throughout the year?
Happy and Healthy 2023 to you, Dear Darcy
Darcy
I check in mid year, mostly just to help me remember to plan out quilting projects. I like quilting goals since I’m awful at personal resolutions.
