Double Stars Quilt Pattern
Double Stars Quilt Pattern is here! That makes two quilt pattern releases in a week, what was I thinking?
Both are star quilt block patterns. Checkered Stars was the fastest idea-to-pattern that I’ve ever had. Double Stars has been one of the slowest.
Last New Year’s Day I won a fat quarter bundle from the Cotton Cure in Oregon. I pulled out the green fabrics and made this soft baby boy quilt with the navys, light blues, burgundies and a few soft pinks.
This was the start of the Double Stars Quilt Pattern. I used two different types of star quilt blocks and alternated them to make the pattern. I was thrilled with the idea, but as I made these blocks at only 6”, there were too many tiny pieces, and I was frustrated enough with the pattern to set it on the back burner for a while.
Almost a full year passed, and I had these fabrics left over from my Temperature Quilt and noticed how well they coordinated with these other floral fabrics leftover from Z’s Diamond Twist Quilt. I just admired them for a few weeks, kept them in a pile where I could see them, and let the ideas come to me.
The idea of mixing these with background black-on-white and white-on-black took shape, and I decided the time was right to attempt Double Stars again. I solved all of the frustration problems by making the blocks a little bit larger than the first version.
In this version, all of block A have floral stars and black backgrounds and all of Block B have Blueberry Park stars and white backgrounds.
I wrote this pattern with fabric requirements as four colors total, one for Star A, Background A, Star B and Background B. Since my first version used fabric lines, rather than a specific color for the stars, I thought I should make another version, and actually follow my own directions.
This Double Stars Quilt is made entirely from Moonscape and Dash Flow fabrics and is pink on dark blue for Star A and purple on light blue for Star B.
Double Stars Quilt Pattern is now in my Etsy Shop, as is Checkered Stars. Both versions seen here are the baby size quilt, but this pattern is written all the way up to King size bed quilt. Stop by to take a look!
And now, a few more photos of these quilts in the wild on a very hot spring day.
