Falling Stars Quilt Pattern
I have wanted to make a Friendship Star quilt pattern for a few years now and am delighted to share the Falling Stars Quilt Pattern with you today!
I have approximately one zillion photos to share with you. But, you can also skip past the photos and go straight to Etsy for the quilt pattern. It won’t hurt my feelings at all.
Falling Stars Quilt Pattern – The Citrus Version
Falling Stars began as a fabric bundle from Fabric Bubb.
I reached out to ask their thoughts on some background fabric choices to go with this bundle. They took the time to answer my questions and to send me some photos to help me make a decision.
I really stepped outside of my comfort zone with this bundle. It involves both directional fabrics and some very light fabrics that don’t pop out from background.
This was a deliberate choice and I love the end result that some stars really pop and some fade into the background.
Friendship Stars
The Falling Stars quilt pattern is made from Friendship Stars that are offset rather than in neat rows and columns.
As a block-based quilt pattern, you can easily make your stars from one fabric, or from as many different fabrics as there are blocks in the quilt.
You can even get extra fancy and make stars with a different fabric in the star center than in the star points.
With 6 quilt sizes and the versatility of the Friendship Star Quilt Block, the sky is the limit when it comes to Falling Stars Quilt Pattern.
Colorful Backgrounds and White Falling Stars
I also made a Christmas version of Falling Stars.
I haven’t quilted it yet, and that made getting a good photo a challenge!
The good news is that I’m working on Christmas versions of all of my quilt patterns, and I’ll have this one quilted up and ready for better photos in time to share along with the others.
While the Citrus Falling Stars has one background fabric and lots of different star prints, the Christmas Falling Stars has a variety of different backgrounds, which really shows where the block lines are, as well as a bunch of low volume prints for the stars.
The white stars aren’t all the same prints, there are blue snowflakes, red stripes and dots, and tiny stars and blossoms in reds, golds and greens.
Which Version?
I honestly cannot decide if I like this quilt pattern better with colorful stars on a neutral background or a vibrant background with white stars.
Directional Prints in Falling Stars Quilt Pattern
There are directional prints in both the Citrus and Christmas versions of Falling Stars Quilt Pattern.
The quilt pattern includes directions for using directional prints. And the best part? It’s not really any more difficult to make Friendship Stars with directional prints than with other fabrics.
Take a look at those gnomes!
Directional prints will work for either the background fabrics OR for the star fabrics.
A Few More Things
Check out the quilting definition on these stars! This is going to have perfect, crinkly texture once it has been washed and dried.
And tulips! Since I don’t live in a citrus growing region, yellow/orange tulips was the best I could do to bring in nature to the photography.
Falling Stars Quilt Pattern and a Quilt for Sale
You can find the Falling Stars Quilt Pattern in my Etsy pattern shop along with all of my other quilt patterns.
The Citrus Version of Falling Stars is currently listed in my Etsy quilt shop as well. The Christmas version will be there soon as well; just as soon as I convince myself to spend an evening basting it and then get it quilted and bound.
