Farmhouse Plaid Quilt Patterns – TWO New Patterns
I am so, so happy to announce to you the release of my newest patterns- Farmhouse Plaid Quilt Pattern!
While this may look like one pattern, it is actually TWO patterns! Smaller diamonds make up the pink quilt on the left and larger diamonds make up the blue quilt on the right.
What I like most about the two diamond size options is that one will go together faster, while the other will show more of the plaid pattern. Both patterns come in three sizes- a baby/crib quilt, a smaller throw and a larger throw, and both make use of a dark and a medium hue of a single color family as well as a white or other light neutral. In all of the sample quilts I made as a part of testing this pattern, I used the dark color as my binding too.
I made six (yes, SIX) of these Farmhouse Plaid Quilt Pattern quilts in the last few months as I was writing and testing the patterns, and I’m going to share all of them with you, because I think the fabric choice from each adds something unique to the idea of Farmhouse décor.
But first, a bunch of Quilts in the Wild photos that showcase both the beautiful quilts as well as the changing seasons as I worked through this pattern.
Farmhouse Plaid Quilts in the Wild
A quilt made from snowflake fabric on a snowy day? Yes, please! This is the large throw version of the smaller diamond pattern in my backyard after a recent snow storm. I know you cannot see the snowflakes in the fabric here, but keep on scrolling down for a zoomed in shot.
After the snow melted (well, several months after the snow melted…) the cherry blossoms arrived and I took two of the quilts for a walk through the neighborhood.
Let’s take a closer look at each of these quilts!
Farmhouse Plaid Quilts – 6 Varieties
I really cannot pick a favorite! As I’m writing this, I’m even struggling to find an order to share these in, but I suppose I better just pick one and get going.
I’ve noticed that Farmhouse Plaid Quilts are often made with solid fabrics, and I am anything but a solids quilter!
Black and White Hearts
This black and gray farmhouse plaid quilt is the closest I got to solids. This is the large throw, made from the larger diamonds.
But, surprise! It’s not solids at all! All three fabrics have itty bitty hearts. The black and gray fabrics have white hearts, and the white fabric has black hearts.
This close up photo shows less of the plaid pattern, but more of the hearts and a better view of the contrast between the dark and the medium fabrics.
And just like that, pick one quilt to start sharing and realize the logical pattern to share the remaining five.
Blue Snowflakes
Up next, the large throw made from the smaller diamonds. This one is made from dark and medium blue fabrics with white snowflakes, and a white fabric with blue snowflakes. I’ve been trying to incorporate holiday fabrics into all of my quilt pattern designs, to give quilters more ideas, and when I saw this fabric I just had to snap it up!
Floral Farmhouse
This next Farmhouse Plaid Quilt is the Small Throw made with larger diamonds.
This is the one I was most excited to make, because I had seen someone share a photo of a quilt made with squares in similar florals. It turned out to not be my favorite, because I don’t think there’s quite enough contrast between the light (white) fabric and the medium (floral on white background) fabric. If the medium fabric had been a pale blue background, then this one would be hands down my favorite. Which really, is a little silly, because floral fabrics aren’t typically the way I roll.
Grays and Whites
The Small Throw/Smaller Diamond quilt was the last of the six I made. I made this one in a hurry in order to be done in time to get photos of all 6 before one of the baby quilts was gifted at a shower.
Fortunately, these are quick quilts!
This one is dark(er) gray, light(er) gray and white, and somehow all those hash marks remind me of the intro to Saved by the Bell. There’s not nearly enough neon for this to be an accurate comparison, but once it got into my head, I just couldn’t get it out.
Blue Stars
Speaking of quick quilts, this baby/crib sized version of the larger diamonds took just 3½” hours from cutting the fabric into strips to having the quilt top complete. I love, love, love the stars in these blue fabrics, and while it’s harder to see in the photo, there are small white stars on the white fabric too.
Pink Jax
Fun story, this baby/crib size quilt with the smaller diamonds has the exact same number of diamonds and layout as the large throw version of the larger diamonds. The smaller diamonds mean a smaller overall quilt, but otherwise the construction is exactly the same.
The pink quilt may look like solids, but it’s not! Jax fabrics in bright pink, light pink and white are tonal fabrics. And pink polka dot flannel for the backing!
Where to Find the Farmhouse Plaid Quilt Patterns
Look no further for all the Etsy Shop details:
Farmhouse Plaid Quilt Pattern – Smaller Diamonds – A quilt pattern in three sizes
Farmhouse Plaid Quilt pattern – Larger Diamonds – Also a quilt pattern in three sizes
Two Farmhouse Plaid Quilt Patterns in One Listing – This bundle is a better price than buying individually!
And, as is becoming more of the norm, several of these quilts are available for sale! Not all of the individual quilts are listed in my Etsy shop, as some were made with a recipient in mind and some were snapped up before getting published, but the rest are all there.
Do you remember a few months ago when I shared a Diamond Quilt Tutorial and told you to save it for tips and help with a future quilt pattern? Today is the day! This is that pattern! While this tutorial will not take the place of either of the patterns, it will help immensely with sewing on the bias and getting all of those points to meet perfectly.
