On Point Quilt Pattern – Updated to Include Bed Size Quilts

On Point Quilt Pattern – Re-released and Now Better Than Before!

On Point Quilt Pattern

The On Point Quilt Pattern is the very first quilt pattern I ever wrote.   It’s also my newest pattern, because it’s been updated and is so much better than before!

The original On Point Quilt Pattern came in two sizes, small throw and large throw.  I have now updated the pattern to include twin, queen, and king-sized bed quilts.

On Point looks amazing in every fabric combo I have ever seen it in, it’s great for scrappy fabrics, and for fabric from one collection, and all colors!

This Christmas version of On Point was the quilt that led to me writing this pattern.  I had a vision of small triangles and large triangles together and couldn’t find a pattern anywhere, so I made my own.

I’m not going to lie, I pack it away after Christmas, but I pull it back out any time we get a snowstorm.

The On Point Quilt Pattern still my best seller, and it’s also the quilt pattern I get the most questions about.

Does this pattern include bed sizes?

          It does now!

Can I use Fat Quarters?

          Unfortunately, no.

At least, not efficiently.  You can use whatever cuts of fabric you want, but 1/3-yard (or 2/3-yard for the larger bed sizes) cuts of fabric are the most efficient.

Do I need a special tool?

          Nope!

If you purchased the pattern on Etsy any time prior to April 2020, unfortunately there is no way for me to automatically send you the update.  I can see the reasoning- book publishers don’t automatically give new editions to the people who have purchased previous editions.  But also, if I sold something, that now I have improved, I think you deserve to have the better version.  So, IF you purchased On Point through Etsy, shoot me an email with the invoice number, and I’ll make it right.

I tried, and I tried, to re-write the cutting directions, to make this quilt fat quarter friendly.  Unfortunately, I just couldn’t make the measurements work.  You can definitely use fat quarters of fabric if you want, but you will need significantly more fabric than if you use 1/3-yard cuts.

You do not need a special tool to cut the triangle shapes for this pattern.  Most quilting rulers have a 60* line on them, and this is all you need for cutting!

On Point is in my Etsy shop, and you should go take a look!

This Mystical Land Fabric by Maureen Cracknell works perfectly for an On Point Quilt!  I’m so, so happy with how these colors came together to make a stunning version of On Point!

This is the same fabric I used for my Meadowland quilt, but making a new On Point was the reason for buying the fabric, and I just love how it turned out!

Being quarantined means lots of time for quilting and for pattern writing, so I’m rewriting previous pattern to add more sizes, and am hopeful I’ll have two brand new patterns for you in the next few weeks too, as well as several new scrappy tutorials in the next months.

It also means lots of opportunities for walks in my neighborhood, which sometimes leads to stumbling across the perfect quilt photo shoot location!
