Updated Hexagon Quilt Pattern in More Sizes
Hexie in a Hexie, my hexagon quilt pattern, is now updated and now includes 6 sizes!
If you want to go straight to the pattern, or to the throw quilt without reading through the blog post, these are the links to do just that.

But, if you are like me and like the details behind a quilt, and photos of the many fabrics used in the various versions, read on all about this Hexagon Quilt Pattern.
Hexagon Quilt Pattern
Hexie in a Hexie was the second quilt pattern I wrote, and back then I didn’t know that I should include a variety of sizes in each pattern. Silly me!
My favorite thing about Hexie in a Hexie is how great it looks in every fabric palette I’ve tried out.
I literally wept at the beauty of this original version. Again, silly me!
Next, I made a sort of Christmassy version for an auction. That border fabric is from a Christmas collection from many years ago. The rest of the fabrics are not. While there are reds and greens, I’m inclined to think that the blues, blacks and creams negate the overly Christmassy feel.
To celebrate the hexagon quilt pattern re-release, I made a baby version in lots of bold blues and oranges, with some greens and black and whites too.
Stripes, Stripes and More Stripes
My second most favorite thing about Hexie in a Hexie – stripes!
In these three versions of the hexagon quilt pattern I used a variety of horizontal, vertical and diagonally striped fabrics and I just love how they all look!
My third most favorite thing about Hexie in a Hexie, which really should be my most favorite above aesthetics, is that this quilt pattern is entirely strip piecing based and there are absolutely zero inset or y-seams and it’s one of those quilts that looks complicated but is actually very easy!
I wanted to make a larger throw version of Hexie in a Hexie and I did so the last few weeks using a fun floral fabric collection.
This is definitely the busiest of the four versions of Hexie in a Hexie that I’ve made and while it’s not my normal style, I love how it turned out.
While the fabric requirements for the pattern actually include enough fabric for a scrappy binding, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use a striped binding for the baby size. I stuck with the scrappy binding for the floral version.
I think both have their place and the quilt pattern includes both options for binding within the fabric requirements and the sewing directions. Don’t forget, you can follow my recent Machine Sewn Binding Tutorial which will work with either type of binding you choose to use.

The first three versions of this hexagon quilt pattern are all off to their forever homes, the first is keeping this bed extra warm on cold days, but the floral version is still available for sale.

When I read the first “silly me” re: directions for more sizes, my first thought was no. Not silly. It was an unknown at the time. Another illustration of your growth

Definitely a big learning curve in those early days!

Thanks for info but will I be able to receive the pattern or just pics of quilts showing pattern? Thanks
Darcy
Gloria, yes the pattern includes step by step directions. This blog post is an announcement that the pattern has been updated and re-released, but you’ll need to follow the link to my Etsy to buy the pattern.
